A Mini ... Me?
It is getting close to the time when I will have to retire my beloved Jeep, Betsy, and get a new car. She's been a good, reliable friend but Betsy has been having some issues lately and seeing as how she is 10 years old with almost 200,000 thousand miles on her, it just doesn't seem cost effective to pour money into the old gal.
My dream car for the past 4 years has been the Cooper Mini, and really, within the last year, the Mini Convertible. I'm not sure why I love this car so much because I have never been a car person, but I salivate every time I see one of them on the road and I make my boy drive past the dealership so I can dream "shop" mine.
I've been doing some research online because I want to make sure that this is the car for me but I thought maybe some of you out there had some opinions. Do you have one or know anyone who does and what is the general concensus on the car? Does it have lots of problems, is the mileage decent, does the cuteness wear off? (That last question is totally girly, I know.) How is it for transporting pets, groceries, or just junk? (It actually appears quite roomy inside.)
I hear that the 2007 model is going to have some engine upgrades but I'm not sure that Betsy is going to last that long without an overhaul so I'm looking at the 2006 models, or possibly even a used version with low mileage.
Let me know your thoughts.
Happy Sunday!

A few of my friends turn into seething, drooling messes when they see the Mini...and it's a very cute car. I wish I could give you a more informed answer about problems but I have no clue.
Just make sure you are ready for the transition from such a big car to such a small one...you may think you can handle the loss of cargo space, but my friend, it is a tough adjustment! (Going from the family 4-door to a 2-door coupe was even a shock for me, lol)
I have always wanted a jeep, but I kept hearing horrible things about reliability. How did it do for you?
As for the minis, I know nothing other than I like the way they look. I saw a red one with a union jack on the hood. It was awesome. beep beep
Well, if you get one, I'd definetly get a convertible. Then you can pick me up and we can cruise in the sun.
I don't care how roomy people say they are inside. I have trouble squeezing my 6' 2" frame into a Ford Escort let alone a Cooper Mini...
I took my daughter shopping for one last year, and although they are cute, she didn't end up getting one. They are a little expensive brand new I thought... and, since she was in a terrible accident several years ago, I wanted her in a bigger, more protected car (don't mention the fact that I ride a Harley with no protection at all - LOL)
I, too, like them mini cars. Alas, they are a distant dream as long as I have three kids tagging along. I'm going to be the jealous one if you get one. I'd trade my zoom'd teeth for one any day!!!
Liz - I've had my Jeep Cherokee for 10 years. The only problem I've had is that I had to replace the transmission about 4 years ago. Other than that, no issues ... and I'm not the greatest at getting my oil changed regularly either.
